How it is built

A 4 mm braided steel cable in a PVC jacket, 200 mm long, on a three-dial resettable combination body. The cable bends where a rigid shackle cannot, so it will pass round a telescopic bar or join two pieces together.

Suits these shells

Hard shell, polycarbonate: Flexes under load and springs back. Takes surface scuffing more than cracking.
Hard shell, ABS: Stiffer and more brittle than polycarbonate. Corners are the usual failure point.
Aluminium frame: A full cover fits badly over the frame lip. Corner and edge guards suit these better.
Soft side, fabric: Absorbs impact but scuffs and tears. Zippers and handles take the strain.
