How it is built

A 60 × 90 cm sheet of 5 mm cross-linked closed-cell PE foam that cuts cleanly with scissors and does not shed. It wraps around whatever the awkward object is, which is the case whenever the object is not a bottle.

Suits these shells

Hard shell, polycarbonate
Flexes under load and springs back. Takes surface scuffing more than cracking.
Hard shell, ABS
Stiffer and more brittle than polycarbonate. Corners are the usual failure point.
Aluminium frame
A full cover fits badly over the frame lip. Corner and edge guards suit these better.
Soft side, fabric
Absorbs impact but scuffs and tears. Zippers and handles take the strain.
