Strap Cross

Two directions instead of one. The single strap slides on a smooth shell; a cross does not.

How it is built

Two 50 mm polyester straps joined at a central four-way plate so they run around both the girth and the length of the case. The plate stops either strap creeping toward a corner, which is what a single strap on a polished shell tends to do.

Suits these shells

Hard shell, polycarbonate
Flexes under load and springs back. Takes surface scuffing more than cracking.
Hard shell, ABS
Stiffer and more brittle than polycarbonate. Corners are the usual failure point.
Aluminium frame
A full cover fits badly over the frame lip. Corner and edge guards suit these better.
Soft side, fabric
Absorbs impact but scuffs and tears. Zippers and handles take the strain.
