How it is built

The same three-layer padded construction as the 24 in the large cut: 300D woven outer, 4 mm closed-cell EVA core, taffeta lining, quilted on a 60 mm grid.

Suits these shells

Hard shell, polycarbonate
Flexes under load and springs back. Takes surface scuffing more than cracking.
Hard shell, ABS
Stiffer and more brittle than polycarbonate. Corners are the usual failure point.
Soft side, fabric
Absorbs impact but scuffs and tears. Zippers and handles take the strain.

Corner impact test
Free fall from 1.0 m onto a rigid steel plate, case loaded to 15 kg, impact on the lower shell corner, five repeats per sample, three samples, conducted at 23 °C.
