How it is built

A mid-size stretch cover, a three-dial combination lock and a silicone tag. A layer over the shell, a closed zipper and a case you can identify — the three problems people describe most often, in their plainest form.

Suits these shells

Hard shell, polycarbonate
Flexes under load and springs back. Takes surface scuffing more than cracking.
Hard shell, ABS
Stiffer and more brittle than polycarbonate. Corners are the usual failure point.
Soft side, fabric
Absorbs impact but scuffs and tears. Zippers and handles take the strain.
