How it is built

Four moulded TPU shrouds that clip around a spinner wheel housing, leaving the wheel itself free to rotate. They add material to the part of the case that projects furthest and hits first when it goes over an edge.

Suits these shells

Hard shell, polycarbonate
Flexes under load and springs back. Takes surface scuffing more than cracking.
Hard shell, ABS
Stiffer and more brittle than polycarbonate. Corners are the usual failure point.
Soft side, fabric
Absorbs impact but scuffs and tears. Zippers and handles take the strain.

Corner impact test
Free fall from 1.0 m onto a rigid steel plate, case loaded to 15 kg, impact on the lower shell corner, five repeats per sample, three samples, conducted at 23 °C.

Fitting

Three steps, no tools.

  1. 01Clean and dry the area of the case the part sits on. Room temperature, indoors.
  2. 02Line the part up dry first and check the fit before you commit any adhesive.
  3. 03Seat it, press it home along its full contact area, and leave it 24 hours before the case is handled.
